Prime Minister Ehud Olmert briefed a delegation of top American Jewish leaders from the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations about the current situation in Gaza and Israel’s efforts to stop Hamas’ reign of terror against the citizens of Israel in the south. The delegation—which had come under rocket fire while visiting Sderot—saw the resolve of the Israeli people, the determination of the government and the high morale of the military.  They all understand the importance of destroying the terror infrastructure so that Hamas will not be able to continue firing at civilians now and in the future. The group also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, President Shimon Peres, and the Chairman of the Likud party Benjamin Netanyahu; was briefed by key military officers and policy makers; and visited front line communities and Israeli troops stationed near the Gaza border.
