Aggressive Iranian Behavior Underscores Need for Increased Sanctions
New York, July 9, 2008
June Walker, Chairperson, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, said that
recent actions by the Iranian government underscore the irresponsibility and danger Iran presents to region and the world. The launching of missiles and extensive military exercises coupled with threats against the United States, Arab countries, and Israel make it all the more urgent that stringent sanctions be imposed, and that the effort to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons be accelerated.
We take the threats of the Iranian regime seriously and cannot allow them to continue to maneuver by putting forth false hopes of a change in policy, which are meant only to gain them time. The enrichment of uranium continues apace and they continue to assert that they will not be deterred, Ms Walker and Mr. Hoenlein said.
The Conference of Presidents is the central coordinating body representing 51
national Jewish organizations on issues of national and international concern.
Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman
