Conference of Presidents Welcomes South Korea's Adoption of IHRA Definition

New York, NY

. . . Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

"We applaud South Korea’s adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, making it the first Asian nation to join the growing coalition of countries that have done so.

The endorsement of the definition by so diverse a group of governments at all levels, NGOs, and universities reflects the broad support it has as the most authoritative and internationally accepted definition of antisemitism. In order for antisemitism to be effectively confronted, it is essential that it be defined, and violations identified.

We thank the South Korean government for its support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and we strongly encourage others to follow in adopting the full definition as a key instrument in the global fight against antisemitism in all its forms.”
