Conference of Presidents Appalled by Acquittal of Daniel Pearl Murder Suspect

New York, NY

. . . Arthur Stark, Chairman, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

“We are appalled by the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to release Ahmed Omar Sheikh, the main suspect in the barbaric killing of American Jewish journalist Daniel Pearl z"l in 2002.

The failure of the Pakistani justice system to prosecute this murderer insults the Pearl family and all who have suffered at the hands of terrorists. This unthinkable outrage cannot stand.

We join the White House in calling for the Pakistani government to determine what legal remedies can follow, including US prosecution of Sheikh for his heinous crimes.”
