Conference of Presidents Commends Passage of IAEA Resolution Condemning Iran

New York, NY,... Dianne Lob, Chair, William Daroff, CEO, and Malcolm Hoenlein, Vice Chair, of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, issued the following statement:

"We are grateful for the overwhelming adoption of a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors addressing Iran’s flagrant disregard for international nuclear standards and safeguards set by the IAEA. The thirty nations, with strong leadership from the United States, that approved the resolution (two opposed, while three abstained) sent a clear and forceful message that Iran must adhere to strict nuclear safety obligations and provide technically credible clarifications on past nuclear efforts in order to guarantee regional and global security.

“It is entirely unacceptable that Iran continuously and deliberately violates its international obligations and commitments, particularly its noncompliance with critical nuclear inspections of suspected nuclear activities in various sites across the country.

“The regime’s resumed production of 20% enriched uranium in 2021 accelerated its already steady march toward the enrichment levels necessary to manufacture nuclear weapons. The international community must remain on high alert and must act decisively to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capacity before it is too late.

“The rogue regime is responsible for the deaths of countless innocent people in Iran, the Middle East, and around the world. It regularly calls for ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ — as the Ayatollah continues to further his nuclear ambitions and hegemonic goals. Continued pressure by international agencies, particularly the IAEA and its member countries, is essential to stop its subversive activities, its support for terrorism and murder, and its aggressive behavior.

“We welcome increased sanctions and other strong measures led by the United States to counter Iranian aggression in the region.”
